Strategies for Investing in Your Work and Career. Part 1

This is especially about spending money ๐Ÿ’ฐ ๐Ÿ’ด ๐Ÿ’ต ๐Ÿ’ถ ๐Ÿ’ท ๐Ÿ’ธ ๐Ÿค‘ for some stuff for your work and career. I work in tech, in software industry as a software engineer, so I'll be more inclined towards talking about tech, but you can see if you can apply similar or same strategies for your industry too, for your role etc. I might tell some generic things too. But I usually focus on tech as that's my current domain

By the way, these are obviously my opinions. It's your money, so, your choice to spend it or not and what you will spend it on, of course :) For that matter, almost anything and everything in your Life is your choice. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise :)

In general, just remember that you earn a lot of money from your job - your work, your career. It's okay to spend a little - to invest in your work and career, to get better income in the future :) Some investments are too small, compared to how much you earn :)

Spending money on Artificial Intelligence

Get an AI agent for each and everything ;) Just kidding, lol. You can get it for whatever you deem viable and sensible. For example, I would say it's sensible to spend on some important and nice tasks, like, especially for coding. Say GitHub Copilot. It's pretty cheap and worth it to some extent from what I read online. You can atleast use it for contributing to open source projects if you are not allowed to use it at work.

Other than coding, where else can you use AI? To create design - system design, architecture design, drawing architecture diagram and other diagrams, writing documentation, writing blogs and more! For example, for blogs, Hashnode has free ๐Ÿ†“ AI features now for helping you to write blogs!!

I think you can pay for AI services. Any AI service that you seem valuable like I said. GitHub Copilot is one I'm planning to put my money ๐Ÿ’ฐ ๐Ÿ’ด ๐Ÿ’ต ๐Ÿ’ถ ๐Ÿ’ท ๐Ÿ’ธ ๐Ÿค‘ on. There's many more AI services and products out there like you know, like Hashnode Pro with Hashnode AI etc

I still haven't put my money on GitHub Copilot because I'm not even coding much these days. I work as an infrastructure engineer at the time of this writing. I do use my terminal a lot for running Kubernetes CLI and AWS CLI commands but not much other than that. I do write a lot of YAML. I write Golang code at times. I could use GitHub Copilot or similar services for these. I still haven't bought GitHub Copilot though. However my current company, Ola Cabs, already got the GitHub Copilot for me and all developers, so, I just use that for work :) Open Source, I haven't been involved much recently, so, I'm putting that use case on hold for now

By the way, GitHub Copilot works in the terminal too ;) You can ask it to suggest commands to do some task ;) I just found out today and it makes total sense - why restrict GitHub Copilot to just the code editor. Coding is not the only thing software developers do ;) We run stuff on the terminal, we do design documentation, debugging etc

Spending money on a Custom Domain for yourself

I would recommend spending money on a custom domain for yourself - for your work blog, any projects, etc

It's not very expensive to get some domain names. But yeah, I do agree that some domains are pretty expensive. It's your call. I think it's nice to see a .com , .me , .io, .dev , .design in the domain name of someone's work/project, blog, etc, especially on a resume, than something like https://karuppiah7890.github.io , which is okay if you don't have money or don't want to spend on domain names, but remember that it's not much of a cost at times, compared to how much salary you earn
